Theme: Worshiping God- God Sends a Savior

  1. Luke 1:46-55 records Mary’s song of praise from when she visited her cousin Elizabeth and felt the full excitement of what God is doing in the world by sending the Messiah. Have you ever been so excited you felt like singing?
  2. “Humble” means to not think too highly of yourself; to know the limits of your power. It is a word that describes many of the characters in the story leading up to Jesus’ birth. As you listen, think about the ways different people in the Bible put their trust in God, not in their own power or understanding.

Reflect

In the Christmas story, God works through humble people. Mary humbly accepted God’s announcement that she would have a baby, even though people wouldn’t believe that Jesus was God’s son. Elizabeth humbly trusted that God would give her a baby and take care of her health even though she was old. Joseph prayed and humbly asked God for wisdom, instead of listening to others about breaking off the engagement with Mary. Today, we can be humble and obedient to God in big decisions or small ones.

Challenge

No matter what time of the year it is, God calls us to be humble and trust him. Find a way this week to follow God’s call to serve. What can you do around your own house that would serve others?
