Reflect

Think about why you pray. Prayer connects us with God. As we can see in both of Jesus’ parables, God encourages us to bring our praise, thanks, concerns, worries and fears to him (Philippians 4:5-7). 1 John 5:14-15 says that when we share our good times and our bad times with God, he hears us, bears our burdens, and gives us what we need. Whether it is a quick spontaneous prayer with friends or saying the Lord’s Prayer together during the family meal time, there’s never a bad time to pray!

Read all about prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, Ephesians 1:17, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2, Romans 12:12, and Philippians 4:6. Want to dig deeper and learn more about prayer? Check out Kids Corner’s eBook Faith Practices for Families: Prayer.

Challenge

When his disciples asked him to teach them to pray, Jesus taught them this prayer:

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matthew 6:9-13).

Let’s follow the example that Jesus taught because it is for us too. Learn the Lord’s Prayer, practice praying it, and repeat it from memory.
