God is Calling You

How many times has an adult asked you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” It can be fun to daydream about answers to this question. Maybe you imagine yourself as a builder or an astronaut or a dancer. Maybe you dream about being a doctor or firefighter or pastor. There are so many wonderful ways to serve God, but how can you choose which is best?
In the early church, some Roman Christians argued with each other over which jobs were more important and better for serving God than others. When the apostle Paul wrote to these believers, he made it clear that God does not value one job or talent more than any other. Instead, God uses all the different gifts and talents of his people to work together for his good.
It’s less important what we do and more important how we do it. Paul wrote, “I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That’s the most sensible way to serve God. Don’t be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him” (Romans 12:1-2 CEV).
We all have a role to play in God’s big story—and God is calling you to submit your gifts, talents, and work to him right now. Will you invite God to form you, decision by decision and lesson by lesson, into the person he wants you to be?
Prayer
God, thank you for making me a part of your plan. Help me learn to serve you in all I do, starting now. Amen.Related Resources
